From the President...

The board retreat in Las Vegas was a tremendous success and a lot of hard work. For two days we worked relentlessly to develop the mission, vision, values and goals that will direct all organizational activities during the period covered by the plan.

We set short-term and long-term goals and objectives for all of our operations, and these goals are interrelated. We are utilizing the talents from all areas to help each other. We have analyzed where we are, where we've been, and where we want to go. We've established goals and objectives, we've established measurements, and we're in the process of tracking those measurements to expectations, and then modifying the plan to achieve the objectives. We're in the final stages, and we're in control of what we do, which is important to our future.

I would like to thank the Board of Directors for flying out to Vegas on their dime and being so generous with their time. This is truly a dedicated board that loves and cares deeply for the association.

I am energized to move this association to the next level. The coming programs and events will be exciting, engaging, effective and fun. Be prepared to see ARCSI like you never seen it before.

Public Relations Help: Another ARCSI Member Benefit

Businesses are always looking for new and innovative (and cheap!) marketing ideas. One way to get your business noticed is to be featured in a credible news story using you, your business and ARCSI as expert sources.  

ARCSI regularly receives requests from reporters seeking sources on topics ranging from green cleaning to small business operations to spring cleaning. If you would like to serve as a source - netting yourself, your company and ARCSI exposure and recognition, please contact Chris Zimmer, Director of Membership and Communications.  

While we can't guarantee you'll be chosen as a source, we can make the reporter's contact e-mail available to you.

Another opportunity to get in front of members of the press is to generate a press release. ARCSI staff can help you get the word out if you've recently won an award or made a policy or procedure change that sets you head and shoulders above the competition.

ARCSI 2011 ELC Presented by Modern Cleaning

PR Committee Now Seeking Members

How did you hear about ARCSI the first time? My guess is that it was kind of haphazard. Maybe someone told you; maybe you got a postcard or just happened upon the association while surfing the web.

We want to be more proactive in getting our name out there on the internet.A new committee is forming that is being called the Public Relations Committee. I will be the Chair and I need some good minds to help me brainstorm on how to get the word out.

At first I don't need a computer whiz or someone with a graduate degree in PR. I need RAVING FANS of ARCSI! We will take our passion and figure out how to communicate that to others.

So, if you like to brainstorm, if you are a good writer or if you just want to be involved, e-mail me or call me at 757-499-0776 or call Chris Zimmer in the home office at 614-547-0887. You will be welcomed with open arms!!!!This committee will make a huge difference in the future of our association. Come and be part of that difference.

Bruce Vance Bruce Vance is a 20-year veteran of the industry and holds the IICRC Master Textile Cleaner certification.  He also holds industry certifications in Stone and Tile care, Hard Floor care, and Applied Microbial Remediation.  He is the current chairperson of a national cleaning industry's Technical Advisory Committee.



ARCSI Member Profile: Teresa Ward, Teresa's Family Cleaning

Teresa founded Teresa’s Family Cleaning in 1993 as a one woman operation working out of the basement and garage of her home. Raised in a family owned business, she was brought up to appreciate the hard work involved in service related fields, and to aspire to one day own her own company. By 1999, Teresa’s Family Cleaning had grown to cover all of Long Island.  

Ten years after creating her business, Teresa’s family was hit by tragedy when she lost her only sister to cancer. In an effort to turn the pain of loss into something more positive, Teresa dove headfirst into philanthropy. Teresa’s Family Cleaning is now a participant in several local and national cancer based charities, and have also become involved in organizations such as Habitat for Humanity and Toys for Toys. Teresa is a founding member of Cleaning For a Reason, which offers free cleaning services to women undergoing cancer treatments.  

In 2004, Teresa joined the ARCSI, which she credits with taking her company to new levels of success. "Joining the organization breathed new life into my cleaning company and reinvigorated my excitement about running a cleaning organization. Between the seminars, classes and exhibits, I meet and interact with people in the industry from all over the world. It’s a tremendous opportunity to network, to learn and for all of us to grow personally and professionally.”

Teresa was elected to the Board of Directors of the ARCSI in 2007 and by 2010 she was elected to the position of Vice President. "My great hope is that through this organization, we are able to raise the bar on the entire industry by creating an example of the best practices and standards that can be provided. Leadership by example would be a wonderful legacy for the ARCSI.” 

Teresa and her husband, Kevin, are always one of the top selling "items" in the annual ARCSI Ambassador Auction held at the ARCSI Convention. Every year, Teresa and Kevin donate their time and experience by offering to travel to a member's business and give tips and advice on what has worked for them and how that member could grow their business.

 In addition to her service with the ARSCI, Teresa currently serves on the board of the LIASB (Long Island Association of Small Business) as Vice President and Chairperson, and is a member of the Suffolk Women’s Business Coalition. She is also a member of the Friends for Life Foundation, as well as over 25 other business, civic, and charitable organizations.
